Working Together with Our Growers: Reflections from the Land to Market Regenerative Grazing Meeting

At the end of October, we hosted a regenerative grazing meeting in Tacuarembó, organised by Engraw together with Land to Market, represented in Uruguay by Pampa Oriental, who lead the programme locally.

The meeting took place on 31 October and was conceived as a space to come together with our growers — both those already participating in the Land to Market programme and those interested in learning more or considering how to begin implementing regenerative practices on their fields.

Our objective was clear:
to understand how growers are experiencing the process so far, to review the results and learnings emerging from the practices implemented, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to explore how this approach can continue evolving and gradually expand to more fields.

More than a formal update, the encounter was designed as a moment of shared reflection. We recognise that regenerative land management is not a fixed model or a one-size-fits-all solution, but a process that develops over time through observation, feedback, technical support and collaboration.

What is Land to Market?

Land to Market is a sourcing programme centred on regenerative land management, using outcome-based evaluations to better understand how fields respond to different management decisions over time. Rather than prescribing a single set of practices, the programme focuses on measuring and assessing conditions on the land, while supporting growers as they adapt their management to their specific landscapes, climate variability and yearly conditions.

At Engraw, we are a Land to Market partner, working alongside technical teams and growers to facilitate evaluations, support the interpretation of results, and share learnings throughout the process. Our role is to accompany growers, help build understanding around the programme, and connect responsible land management with international markets that value transparency and long-term commitment.

The programme places strong emphasis on measuring, observing and adjusting — using data, technical guidance and on-the-ground experience to inform decisions and continuously improve management over time.

Grower feedback: key insights from the survey

Following the meeting, we carried out a survey among participating growers to better understand their experience and gather direct feedback. The questionnaire explored several key areas, including:

  • familiarity with regenerative grazing concepts,
  • experience implementing regenerative practices on their fields,
  • perception of technical support and accompaniment,
  • motivation to continue within the programme,
  • and interest in further development and expansion.

The responses reflected a high level of engagement and interest. All respondents indicated that they are either already implementing regenerative grazing practices or are interested in doing so, showing a shared openness to exploring alternative approaches to land management.

Growers highlighted the value of having technical support, opportunities to exchange experiences with peers, and spaces like this meeting to ask questions and reflect collectively. At the same time, the feedback also pointed to areas where we can continue improving — particularly in communication, clarity around the programme, and ongoing support as practices evolve.

Looking ahead

For Engraw, this feedback is a fundamental part of the process. It helps us better understand how the programme is being experienced on the ground, where additional support is needed, and how we can continue strengthening our work alongside growers.

Our focus moving forward is to keep creating spaces for exchange, learning and measurement — supporting growers as they navigate their own paths within regenerative land management, and ensuring that this work continues to be grounded in real conditions, practical experience and long-term thinking.
